In a will, what does "split equally between children and their heirs" mean ? Does it mean that everything must be divided between children and all the grandchildren ?

If one sibling is dead, her three children split her share three ways.
If there are four siblings, each gets 1/4 of the loot.
The deceased siblings children split the loot in 1/3s, doesn't affect the 1/4 cut the living three siblings get.

If whoever wrote that is still alive he/she needs to get the will rewritten to people don't have to ask "what does this mean?"
