Let's say I file for bankruptcy, and then a month later I am served with a civil law suit...Will the bankruptcy claim offer me some type of immunity? I have not been served with any law suit papers, but I have heard through the grape vine that my ex may be planning to sue me in a civil court. I have always considering filing bankruptcy even before I heard the rumor about my ex's law suit. I have a credit card debt totaling almost $75,000, two mortgages, and two car payments. My divorce and job loss were external impacts I never saw coming. Is bankruptcy a wise decision in my case? -

Yeah, You need to sw a bankrutcy attorney- they have you do a means test to see if you qualify for a chapter 7 or 13-- in any case once you file-- if you were to be served papers they would be in violation of the automatic stay and get introuble-- of course you need to list your ex as a debt
