I'm in Victoria, Australia and I started a new job today as a waiter, and I was told that because I'm under 18 I'm not allowed to take any alcohol to people's tables. The majority of people order alcohol, so this really pisses me off. Would anyone here know if it's actually illegal for me to take alcohol to the customer's table or if it's just a stupid rule at the restaurant? I'm not actually selling it to them, just taking it to their table, so I can't see why it would be illegal.

P.S. I'm not 100% sure if this is the right forum to post in, but if it isn't feel free to move it to the appropriate forum.

This is primarily a US forum and to the best of my knowledge none of the regular responders are knowledgable about Australian law. Even in the US there could conceivably be 50 (51 with DC) different answers to your question - the law in Australia could go along with any of them or be still a 52nd different one.

I just don't want you to be disappointed if you don't get a response.
