I am getting married in March of 09, I have signed with a venue, at my first meeting my coordinator for the facility, mentioned vendor fees but stated that they would waive them.
This person is no longer with the facility and the new person in charge wants to charge me $250. per vendor that I use that is not on their preferred vendors list. There is no mention of these fees in any of the contracts that I have signed. It does state that if I do choose a vendor other than someone on their list they are subject to approval, (Liability insurance. etc.)
My vendor selection has worked at this facility before and also has the required insurance. The facility has approved them however they want to charge me $250.
to use my choice of vendor. What rights do I have and what legally can they do? It's not written in any of the contracts that there are fees of any kind for this instance.
Help, I can afford their vendors.

If you didn't get that in writing from the facility's coordinator from your first meeting it will be hard to make the case that your fees would be waived. You were aware of the charges so now you need to negotiate with them.

The problem I have is that it's not written in the contract. I'm not sure, without taking an hour to write it. If it was written in my contract that there would be fees and the facility said they would waive those fees, I would have had them write it into the contract that we both agreed that there would be no fees incurred.
The problem I have is that it's not in the contract. If it is fair and legal for them to add fees or rules whenever they want to then there is no need for contracts. They could say tomorrow, instead of $250.00 its $350.00. Where is the line drawn?
I am not an expert, but you cannot have a binding legal contract, by a hand-shake, it better be written in the contract, If you want green napkins, it better be in the contract or they can give you red.... no matter how many times you asked for green and they promised to get them for you- and there is nothing you can do about it.... Maybe I am way off and I am stupid to think, I shouldn't have to pay it...? I would have negotiated it out at the time of signing if it was seen in the contract- ???
