Uwed mother and sole custody

i live in new york state. my son and father were never married and never lived together. my son has been with me since birth and i have a stable home and stable job. his father has a heart condition and has threatened me that when he gets better he will take my son away from me. also his mother keeps saying she wants to take him to north carolina when she moves. i was wondering if i filed for sole custody how good are my chances of getting that. also another reason he threatened me was because he has a daughter that lived with her aunt and he never tried to get her and he said he doesn't want to make the same mistake with my son. but i feel why threaten me i didn't do anthing to him

Grandma has nothing to do with this. Stop listening to her. The chances of you gettng custody are probably very good but remember, Dad is Dad and he has rights to visitation.

was paternity ever established? If not, Dad might not have any rights to the child at all right now.

I suggest filing for custody and child support, and a visitation schedule.
