unwed signing over rights what do i do

i live in oregon and my ex girlfriend who has my son in san diego california is at the time living in a group home from coming out of prison for theft and drugs they are not charging me child support but asking for 100.00 a month for back child support of 5000.00 she wants me to sign over my parental rights of my 5 years old son and says the back child support will go away and ill never have to pay child support again is this a true fact or do i still have an obligation to pay the back child support and possible current support please let me know

If your ex girlfriend was in prison or jail, you automatically get custody. If you guys didn't go to court to get custody, then i would suggest you go that. I read that. But since I live in Kansas, it could be different in Oregon and Cali. That's my suggestion.
