I have moved to Central America for a permant residency and new job. Last week I found out through family I have a child support order trying to be served for a 12 year old I did not know about. I am trying to get citizenship from this new country and wondering if my passport becomes invaild because of arrears ($ 30-40k im sure) will I be stuck and marked as criminal? I plan on trying to set up some type of reasonable payment back to support my child but my income is significantly different than it was in MN. My last job I'm sure they are going to hold me to was around $100k /yr and now I am going to make about $30k. What are my options? I'm not a deadbeat dad trying to get out of paying for my child but I'm already moved and had no idea this was coming. With all this coming down, I'm afraid I will be under some unrealistic payments in the near future and I know I will never be able to make here. I don't want to go to jail or end up a man with no country.

Thanks

Hire an attorney to represent you in this matter. How and when was paternity established? Something doesn't sound right here as you state you didn't know you had a child and the child is 12 years old? Any way definately get a lawyer.
