My children and I have lived in Arizona all our lives and my husband moved to California 6 months ago. He filed for divorce in CA and is seeking spousal support, plus joint custody of our two kids. I barely make enough to support me and my children. During our marriage he worked off and on and currently he has been out of work for almost a year and is getting financial support from the state of CA. What im extremely concerned about is if he is awarded joint custody the kids will have to travel back and forth between the two states and I don't want that, plus our oldest who is 12 has no intrest in seeing him. Im worried im going to lose my kids and he will take what little money I have. Does anyone have any suggetions or can I get all this handled in an AZ court?

Why didn't you file in AZ? Maricopa county offers mediation for lost cost. Its conciliation services. Highly doubtful he will get custody since he moved out of state but you need to see if you qualify for legal aid or beg and borrow the money to see an attorney. I would try to argue that AZ should have jurisdiction. As far as the 12 year old not seeing him, the child does not get to choose. Dad will likely get visits. you can fight the alimony possibly.
