Trying to get custody of children.

At age fourteen I was a victim of rape by my mothers live-in boyfriend. My mother abandoned me a year later and left me alone with a child and the abuser. Consequently I had four children and we endured six years of physical and mental abuse. My children got taken away because of the abuse caused by him. Once returned I was with my fourth child and shortly after I got the courage to leave him.We lived in Domestic Violence shelters and with friends for six to eight months, while living in a D.V. shelter I tried to get legal custody of my children. Due to switching of a incompetent legal defender judgement went against me.Then we moved to Omaha, Ne because I have family and support up here. After five years of working on becoming more financially secure I find out from the IRS that he has been claiming children that he has not seen as dependents. Which if goes unresolved will put my family in financial hardship. Looking for legal advice.

Who has the children now, are they in foster care? Who has legal custody of the kids?

You really need to contact legal aid. Also why were criminal charges ever filed with him?

I would call around to any attorney that can help you. Did you not file taxes at all the previous years?

I have the children now, and because I could not make it to court back then I lost custody but I still physically have the children. Also my lawyer was legal aid, criminal charges were filed because he beat the children and myself. And I did file taxes every year, he was mostly unemployed for the time I was with him only drawing SSI.
