Alcohol & Drugs: DUI, DWI Trying to do the right thing...

I am going to pay fines for a Phoeniz, AZ DUI warrant from 1994 of $200.00 and various traffic tickets which which total $828.81 that have a FTA attached also from 1995. I moved to California in 1995 and have lived here since. (I have not been in any trouble and actually have done quite well. However, this issue came up when during a background check with my job with the Department of Corrections.) I plan to pay the fines (in full)over the phone with a debit card on May 10 and then wait to hear from the judge when I have to appear before him, then make a 12 hour trip to Arizona within 10 day period of my payment. My question is being that I live in CA, am I going to have to serve jail time because I left the state? Should I make arrangements to stay in AZ longer than a day? Should I bring a character reference with me like my pastor? I only want to clear this from my record so that I can go back to work and live a productive life. Can somebody tell me what to expect?
