I had a tort claim filed for my unlawful retaliatory demotion. Ten months later my former employer published libelous statements after I had been cleared of any wrongdoing in the case. Would this require a second tort claim or as it was part of the same case would the first one still cover it?

First, explain what you mean by that. "Tort claim" has a specific meaning with regard to litigation against a government entity.

If you mean "I sued my employer" please say so and explain the results of the lawsuit, ie: Did you win? Lose? Get money?

The libel would be a new cause of action requiring a new lawsuit (or "tort claim" if your former employer is a government entity).
