We have a friend here in California who is quite "simple" (academically) but has a BIG heart of gold. He always thinks the best of others, and would give you the shirt off his back.
A few months ago, he sorta dropped outta sight... and then reappeared in January - MARRIED - to a woman nobody has ever heard of. This gal did NOT want to meet his friends (while dating), discouraged him from keeping contact with any of us, convinced him to marry her in Reno, and now - less than 3 mos. into the marriage - has kicked him out of the house they rented together. Our friend has a labor job for the airlines and, at first, some of us thought maybe she had married him for the travel benefits. Now, we realize it was much more.... He is also signed with an Army National Guard Unit - so he gave her a General Power of Attorney, in case he was called overseas. He was. While he was gone, she used that to borrow against his 401K retirement plan, purchase 2 new vehicles, and rented a nice house for herself & her kids (from 3 previous marriages!) Basically - it clearly looks like to those of us on the outside - that she married him to clean him out - and once she did - she had no use for him anymore, withheld intimacy, picked fights continually, pushed the relationship into 'irreconcilable differences' mode, and ordered him out of the house. Now, she wants an "annulment" - specifically NOT a divorce - and our friend is hurt & humiliated.
Like I said... he is 'not the sharpest knife in the drawer'... and has no idea of how to help himself get out of this. He has no money left to hire a lawyer. It is SO sad, and the injustice of it just makes me ANGRY. Six months ago, he had a nice little apartment, newer pickup (paid for), good retirement savings, and no debts. Now, he has no place to live, his truck was traded in on a different vehicle (while he was in Army training), no retirement fund left, and the debts are staggering.
WHAT ARE HIS OPTIONS ???
Can he nail this woman, for being a total gold-digger?
