Can a credit card company garnish my car for a judgement against me?

The fact that you owe a debt doesn't give the holder of that debt the right to attach or levy your property or wages.

In order for any levying to be done against your stuff, a judgment must first be obtained.

That means you would first need to be sued in court and have lost.

Wages can be levied against.

A car is often exempt from levies to satisfy a judgment.

To claim an exemption, you must motion the court within 14 days of the seizure.

This explanation is offered by a court in Idaho.
