I got a ticket last week for going 75 in a 70 mph zone. Its my first ticket in 30 years. First do police usually write tickets for only going 5 over the speed limit and second is there a way to keep it from hitting my record?

Some officers at that speed have a zero tolerance. Driving school will likely be offered to you to keep it off your record if the judge finds you guilty.

yep... driving school. You will still have to pay expensive fines, but it will stay off your record.

Some judges and justices of the peace in Texas will summarily dismiss a ticket if it is issued for less than 10 MPH over the posted speed limit. All one has to do here, is show up in court.

Sometimes the prosecutors kick those types of tickets, too.
