Terminating Parental Rights In Order to Adpopt

My jurisdiction is: Texas

I would like to be able to adopt my stepdaughter. Her biological father has never really been in her life, but does pay child support (or at least some of the time). When I say some of the time, I am referring to this past year where he was put in jail for falling too far behind. Off and on, he has contacted my wife about giving up his parental rights. What are the steps involved that I should take as well as the costs involved in being able to adopt my stepdaughter?

You do nothing! This is between Mom and Dad. Mom and Dad go to court file for TPR at sametime the adoption can be filed. Thisprocess is long and take a year.

If dad is willing, it will be easier, but someone will need to hire an adoption attorney.
