My 20-year-old stepson, awaiting second green residence interview on mother's K1, got into a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, and then increased his problems by running from the police. He is charged with assault (on the girlfriend), possession (less than 10g of marijuana), and obstruction (for running) .. and of course the former INS has finally scheduled the second interview (a two year wait), three days after his trial date.

I think this kid has written his own ticket, but of course there is more involved than just his own fate.

Will his activities reflect on the temp to permanent status of his mother (her visa) and a second stepson also here on the K1 (he is 23)? Does the delay in scheduling of this interview have any weight in the decision process?

What am I missing here?

You are probably right, it seems he has written his own ticket to wherever he came from, and that is good. Criminal activity by one kid has no influence on the visa status of a parent or a sibling.
