My questions is regarding how much time do I have to file a lawsuit for a possible wrongful termination, based on sexual orientation? I would probably file the complaint according to New York City, New York State, or even federal civil procedure rules (if t has subject matter jurisdiction). But I do not know how much time is allowed for me to give notice of and initiate a lawsuit based on employment discrimination/wrongful termination.

Also, did the time on the statute of limitations begin from the day I was terminated or did the time begin before that during the prior alleged workplace incident?

Sexual orientation is not protected at the Federal level. You would most likely have to file with the NY State Division of Human Rights. You have one year from the most recent instance of discrimination, which in your case, based on the minimal information provided, is probably the date of your termination.
