Solicitors fees for personal injury claim work

hi,

i had an accident over a year ago - the other party were 100% liable.
I got a solicitor to do deal with the personal injuries board - and the claim is now through and he is charging me nearly €4000 for his fees.

I have never had to deal with a solicitor before and so have no idea what the fee's covder but that sounds like a lot. He just had to send letters - there was no court involved - and I had one meeting with him.

Can anyone shed a little light on this?
