Negligence, Other Injury Slip and Fall, are they responsible?

Some friends and I went to a dance club Friday evening. We were going to dance on the dance floor and my friend slipped on a spilled beverage that had not been cleaned up and landed on her elbow. Me and another friend grabbed a cab and drove to the closest ER where we found out she broker her elbow in four places and will need surgery to put pins in it. We have never had this happen so weren't aware and weren't thinking to tell the club, just wanted to get her to the ER. The hospital said we need to contact an attorney about having the club pay her medical expenses. Does anyone know if this is possible?
