Well, a few weeks ago my boyfriend of a year and a half broke up with me because he supposedly cheated on me several times. I was very upset because I was 7 months pregnant and I really do not think that he will be supportive of me or the child. He told me how he never wanted the kid and he wanted me to get an abortion back in March when we found out that I was pregnant, but I do not personally believe that abortion is right. He stayed with me so I assumed it was fine when we started talking about names, but now he says since he is having a kid he guesses that he wants it. He has told all of his buddies that he will get full custody of the baby, which I am not worried about because he is about to be 21, he lives with friends because his parents kicked him out when he broke up with me, he has no vehicle, and he also quit his job. He does continue to send messages to me on myspace and I found one this morning that he sent that was full of profanity saying that the baby wouldn't be named what i wanted it to be named and that the baby would be named after him. He also stated that I was a dumb hick and my mother was a lesbian and that if I named the baby after a professional football player, that "he would make my f****** life miserable." When he first broke up with me my family said that they would like him to sign over his parental rights and I did not think that was right, but now, I may have changed my mind. I am not giving the baby his last name and now I seriously do not want him to have any contact with me or the baby. I know that the child will not be born for another two months, but I would like to have somewhat of a plan before his arrival. Any input is appreciated.

since you are not married you have full naming rights to this child. He cannot sever his parental rights unless there is a step-father willing to adopt, so his family saying that is incorrect.

If I were you stop all contact with him. and start figuring out how you are going to support this baby. If you file for child support or government assistance, paternity will have to be established and he then will have some rights to the child. So if you want him to have no rights at all, then unfortunately you need to avoid filing for any financial help.

If you need the child support, then once paternity is established he will have to get a vistation schedule set up with the courts.

So for now, stop commuinicating wih him and his family and just concentrate on having a healthy baby.

unless he can prove you unfit, he will not get full custody. its not up to your family to decide wether or not he signs over his rights, he cant unless you have a husband willing to adopt. unfortunately, you chose him to be your child's father, unless you can prove hes a danger to the child, if he chooses, he will get some form of joint custody and visitation. your family should stay out of this matter because they have no say legally. this is your child with your ex, and you and he are the only ones with rights.
