My wife signed on with Walgreens for a 3 year contract, with a $15,000 sign-on bonus. She had to leave the company 1 year later for personal reasons. More than 1.5 years after her quit date, the company is asking for the $15,000 plus interest.

I don't believe this is enforcable due to the noncompete laws in California. Could a lawyer verify this.

Thanks

Only a lawyer who can actually review the contract can tell her if its enforceable.

If she was paid a large sign on bonus and then quit, yes it is possible she will be forced to re-pay the signing bonus. What does non-compete have to do with this?

This is serious, your wife needs to take the contract to an attorney to review.
