Harassment, Stalking, Misconduct Question about cell phone threat

I received a death threat on my voicemail from my ex gf's husband. What are the laws on this? Also he is in the military and if I press charges will this have an effect on his standing in the air force?

I forgot to put in my post that I live in NY and the guy who left me the death threat lives in florida

i think you can report it to the authorities as harassment and annoying phone calls

Under New York law this is aggravated harassment in the 2d degree, an A misdemeanor. If one would stretch it it even might be menacing in the 3d degree, which would be a B misdemeanor.

Of course there is the little problem, that the guy called from Florida, but there is also a federal law, that he might have broken: 18 USC § 875 or 18 USC § 2261A or 47 USC § 223

Therefore you can file a complaint with the police. While it is not guaranteed that he will be charged and convicted under any of these laws, it might give him some pause. Of course, you need to preserve the evidence.
