Presidential Power ?

Just curious. Does a President have the power to implement an executive order banning the current sale of assault rifles even if just temporarily?

A sitting president often does things that our constitution doesn't allow her/him/it to do.

A president can't declare war, but can dispatch troops to do her/his will.

That said, stay alert citizen, you're about to observe some unusual happenings.

The president could only do that if Congress has already enacted a law giving the president that power. It is not part of the powers given the president in the Constitution. And even with an Act of Congress authorizing it, there would be the inevitable battles in the courts as to whether that Act violates the Second Amendment to the Constitution.
