Would a 46 year old dyslexic woman who has been married for 25 years, for whom English is a second language and whose present English ability is survival English and cannot read any but the most basic English words, who has had minimal formal education and has no skills and no separate income, qualify for a permanent alimony award? She is coming from a marriage where the husband's income is 8K monthly. Thank you in advance for your opinions. (Recommendations for a "permanent alimony" friendly state would be appreciated.)

We cannot recommend a permanent alimony state because she just cannot get up and leave and file for divorce wherever. She would have to meet the juridiction requirements of that state and it is likely the husband would file for divorce in his own state before hand.

At any rate, in almost any state she would qualify for permanent alimony after 25 years of marriage. She needs an attorney big time.

On another note, this woman needs to learn english and to read and write as she will likely have to gain some sort of employement anyways. Highly unlikely she will be able to live off of alimony alone.
