Since it is not a firearm, there's nothing you have to do to make it comply with CA "gun" laws.

The use of an air rifle can be restricted by local regulation, however. So, you might want to check with the local law enforcement agency with jurisdiction wherever you intend to use it so that you do not get in trouble for plinking targets in your backyard. Most cities in the state prohibit their use in the city limits, but, this varies by jurisdiction in CA.

For example, my son has a .22 caliber pellet gun. It is spring propelled. City ordinance prohibits it being fired within limits though an officer told him due to our area being heavily wooded, unless they received a special complaint, no one would bother him for shooting targets toward the woods which are also private property.
