Payroll Check Employer bank would not cash

I live and work in Nj and tried to cash my last payroll check from my employer his bank told me they would not cash to bring it back to him.

should I deposit in my checking account?

what are my rights this is illegal isnt it

What is illegal? Refusing to cash a check? What law do you think exists that requires them to?

Few if any banks will cash a check drawn on account from another bank and no law requires them to do so. Your options are to deposit the check, or to try to cash it at your employer's bank.

If you went to his bank-- They are telling you there is no $$ in there-- DO NOT PUT THIS CHECK IN YOUR ACCOUNT IT WILL COME BACK ON YOU--- Keep going to his bank to cash it, If you take it to your bank it could take up to 2 weeks for them to return it and you will bounce everything -- That would be a mess-- If anything go to him and tell him you want cash
