My nephew, who lives in The Bronx, NY, is 21 years old (will be 22 in December). He lives with his parents and sisters. He recently quit his job, has no income coming in, and is very disrespectful to his parents, to the point of laughing in their faces when they tell him to move out. He is eating them out of house and home, and says that he will not move out. What can they do legally to get him out of the house? He does not contribute to the family, except to get everyone involved very upset. Can they change the locks, so that when he comes back home he can't get back in? He has stolen money from his parents and sister, but nothing was ever done. Now they are at their last straw. Any advice would be appreciated.

Apparently, the parents do not have a problem with the abusive child or they would have kicked him out long ago.

So the question is, why are you asking these questions?

Do the parents want him out?

The legal way to do it is for the parents to file eviction proceedings. NY has laws that need to be followed. They can google it but they will need to eventually file for eviction.

The illegal way is to tell him he has a week to get out and then change the locks. He is at the age of emancipation so I am not sure who he will complain too that will actually listen. It is not very likely he will complain of illegal eviction.
