My brother has recently found out that he is going to be a father. The girls parents were highly against their daughter having the child. Now they have come to terms that both their daughter and my brother want to have the baby. They are both in high school. My question is regarding the rights of the father. If for some reason the parents of the soon-to-be mother changes their mind again and doesn't want their daughter (still a minor) to have the baby, what are the rights of the father? Can their daughter still choose to have the baby? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

When you say have the baby, do you mean abortion or adoption? Until the child is born Dad has no rights. If after the child is born and mom decides she wants to give the baby up for adoption, she still needs dads consent. If mom decides to keep the baby, Dad is going to have to establish paternity and file for visitation rights. So after the birth, he will have some rights, he just doesnt have any now.

When I say have the baby, I mean to have the baby and put the baby up for adoption. They would have to have the fathers consent, correct? If the father chooses not to put the baby up for adoption and instead would rather raise the child (with the help of mom/dad and other family) could he fight to keep the baby?

Thanks again,
ME
