ok i dont really know wher to strt. my sister is 17 and has a one year son. she has handed the baby over to his dad and said she doesnt want him any more. the dad is 18 and proving to be a good dad. he has mentioned he cant cope and i am worried he is going to give him up also. if this were to happen would i be able to take custody of my nephew befor ehe goes into care. i dont want him to get lost in the system and i will not have him being adopted by strangers. also how would it work would i just be ablle to get custody or would i have to adopt him?? i already have 2 children of my own.

It is also very difficult.
You should speak with a local attorney about your desires to save your nephew, if the unthinkable happens.
You might also speak with your state's child protection agency to discuss their policies and procedures in these difficult situations.

I would talk to Dad ASAP and see if he will allow you to take the child and give you guardianship. If he does this start googling or go down to the court house, or talk to an attorney about getting legal guadianship. Sadly until Dad does this there is not much you can do. Also offer Dad your assistancce as much as possible. A baby can be totally overwhelming to someone especially someone his age. Please reach out to him. Go talk to him and see what he wants to do.
