I'll be 17 in less then a month which will make me legal for an emancipation. The thing is I don't know how to go about it. I was adopted at the age of 4 and met my birth mother this past Mothers Day. I was not allowed to see her for 12 years in which time I found out the adoption may not even be legal. I had a lawyer check this out. The judge that did the adoption wasn't from the county that the adoption went through. My birth mother did not sign final adoption papers and the adoption isn't on file. She was not in court the day the adoption was finalized. My adoption certificate doesn't have the state seal on it. My adopted parents are not willing to pay or get a lawyer to have the custody of me returned to my birth mother. How long would the emacipation take and how do I go about getting it.???
