Yesterday, I was served by a process server with a notice of contempt/enforcement.
My ex-wife is taking me to court for not paying my half of the medical bills.
I was laid off in December and still have not found a job. I do not have the money to hire an attorney. If I had the money to hire an attorney, I could pay her. So it looks like I will be doing this alone.
I know that I have screwed up and owe her the medical bills. We have been in communication about the bills and she was always willing to work with me. Out of the blue I received this notice.
What will happen when we go to court next month? Are they going to throw me in jail that day? What will happen?
The medical bills are $1804 ( my part) and I just do not have the money and cannot see myself coming up with this amount in thirty days.
By the time we go to court, I am going to owe even more money because both children are in braces and that is amonthly charge.
Any advice on what will happen in the court room? Will the judge give me a few months to pay the money?
