It would be strategically advantages for me to get my wife to sign a separation agreement regarding ED first then hammer out custody of our only child after without custody battle affecting ED.

Can I get her to sign ED part first and then custody part of separation agreement later without it opening up ED again?

Why do people use abbreviations? "ED"? Remember things are called different things in different states. I have NO IDEA what you are talking about.....

A qualified yes. If you do your Equitable Distribution (ED) in a good faith manner with all material facts disclosed, then probably. If you are planning on hiding something that will pop up during the custody portion then opening ED will possibly be fair game. For the most part a judge is going to enforce what has been previously agreed upon absent a showing of bad faith.
