I need legal advice or assistance.

My (now) ex-girlfriend is threatening to release nude photographs of myself to my employer and colleagues. We had a fight (in which she broke up with me), and now she's openly threatened me with this action.

It might be worth noting that she took these photographs when she was visiting my home in Massachusetts, and she's planning on releasing them from her home in Ohio to my new workplace in Washington state via email to my employer.

What sort of legal protection or actions can I take in order to save myself, or at least my career?

Thank you.

She took the pictures, she owns the pictures, she can do as she likes with her property. If you don't want nudies to get out, don't pose for them.

There are revenge porn laws in many states.
The problem for you is your state, Ohio, has no such laws.

Some reading material on the topic of revenge porn by Ohio attorneys:

Absent specific criminal penalties, some people go the civil law route to seek redress.

However, that draws more attention to you and the "naughty" photos, which can be more egregious if you work in areas which are more conservative by nature.

You might be able to seek a civil order of protection, however, such remedies are only available after the cat has been allowed to escape the bag.

Your dilemma, is one where the law is of little use to you in Ohio.

Going forward, avoiding certain behaviors is far better than reacting to them.

However, Washington does offer you hope.

Washington - Wrongful distribution of intimate images. Gross Misdemeanor. Title 9A RCW. Effective July of 2015.

Legal Voice

I suggest you cease all communication and contact with this female.

You should contact a Washington attorney and discuss how best to proceed if she carries out her threats.

The attorney could write her a "lawyer letter" demanding she cease harassing and threatening you, warning her you'll seek legal redress if she violates your privacy.

She is threatening to post them unilaterally? Or she is threatening to post them unless you...what?
