Hello, I am inquiring for a 19 year old we are trying to help. Her mother has not had custody of her since she was a young teenager. She lived with her aunt and uncle who adopted her. They have 8 other children. Recently the uncle told her he didn't want her living with them anymore. The mother is collecting child support even though her daughter hasn't lived with her in years.

Since the 19 year old has no income, no health insurance, no public assistance, can she do something to have the child support sent to her?
The mother only had one child with the 19 year old's father.

If she was legally adopted by her aunt and uncle, then the biological father's obligation to pay child support was terminated. I suppose it's possible that he's still paying through CSE if the agency was never informed of the adoption, though not likely. Regardless, once she was adopted, her new parents became solely responsible for her care.

If he owed an arrearage from the time before she was adopted, he may still be paying it. If that's the case, then the money is owed to the biological mother.

She should visit the HRA/DSS to find out what services are available to her.

Why is it necessary to point out to someone asking a question for a friend that the "matter that doesnt legally concern" him? This isn't an overstepping SP or overstepping ANYthing.

His presence and help in attaining aid for this girl will not affect her chances of receiving it.:rolleyes:
