Before my husband and I got married he was previously "married" to another woman. They received a marriage license and had a court house wedding; however, they did not file their license at the San Diego county clerk's office and it was thrown away. The only paper that was kept was a keepsake certificate that they received after the ceremony. My husband contacted the county clerk's office and was told that they have no record of a marriage betweeen him and the woman. So, he and I got married in the state of Texas and our license is recored at the county clerk's office. His marriage to the other woman happened over four years ago and his "ex-wife" says that the keepsake certificate is her proof that they are still married even though there is no marriage license on record for them. Is the marriage between my husband and I legal or is he still legally tied to her?
