I heard that a tenant can go after their landlord for not maintaining "Mandatory by Law" repairs at our rental unit(ie:the heat, leaky roof,contaminated water, ect...). The Building Code Enforcement Officer has even come over here to our rental & agreed & has put it in writting as well. But I was told that since we had to live in these conditions for the past 10 months & paying FULL rent on time each month, that we could go after her for monthly rent reduction back pay that she would have to pay back to us because of her failed duties in the mandatory repairs not being met? How would I go about doing this? What forms would I need? & how much rent comes off each month?
 
You need to check the landlord/tenant laws of your state. There you should find information on how to proceed regarding notifications to your landlord, repairs and how you should get reimbursed for those repairs. Good Luck!
