A friend of mine keeps having DHS threaten to take away one of her kids because they live in a two bedroom apartment. She is a divorced mother of one boy, around nine, and one girl, who is almost two. She works full time, but makes too much money to qualify for welfare and too little to find a bigger place. Her boy has his own room and the girl sleeps in her bedroom which is shared with her ex-husband. They all sleep in separate beds, her ex shares in the rent and utilities, and it keeps the kids together no matter the day or holiday.

The main question: Is there an Oklahoma law stating that children over the age of one cannot share a room with someone of the opposite sex, being sibling or parent, with the exception of travel? I was under the impression that accommodations within a household was protected by the Fair Housing Act.

And if such a law does exist, when did it go into effect?

    There is no such law.

    More to the story, perhaps?

Agree, no such law - is there more to the story than what you posted as Proserpina "possibly suggested?" (We're just wondering - not saying there is.) Sometimes, as it seems to be the case here, people can only afford an apt. or house with a certain # of bedrooms.
