K Visa K1, Marriage Visa

I live here in the states and my boyfriend lives in Toronto. We want to eventually get married but what are the steps he needs to do in order to become a resident here? I read most of the threads here but am a little confused. First he needs a green card, right? How do you get that, and how long does it take? After that, what does he need to tell them at the border? What about the K-1 visa, how/when does he get that? After we marry, he is a permanant resident, and after 3 years he can apply for American Citizenship, correct? Sorry about all the questions, I am very confused.

I have answered this a couple of times here in the forum. The basic steps are: apply for K-1 or K-3 Visa to enter the country, then apply for permanent residency by AOS and after 3 years he would be eligible for citizenship.
