Thank you for your responses, in advance. When I was 17 I was caught shoplifting in a mall (I am now an adult). Mall security stopped me and took my information. They allowed me to go home within 10 minutes (we did not leave the store in which the incident happened) and my parents were not notified and I did not see a police officer. My question is, do I have a criminal record?
The security officer stated that the store could have said that they wanted charges filed. I have never received any court documents, summons to court, gone to court, etc.
I did a state criminal records search (through the state court system) and no record was found (but I guess no record would come up since this is a juvenile issue). I contacted the juvenile services unit of the state and was told that juvenile records are sealed and can't be released to anyone. I am not sure who else I should check with regarding a record check. I will be applying for a professional license and don't know what to do.
