How long is a judgement good for to collect on ??

Wow... 20 is pretty long...
I thought the time frame was much shorter, but even so, if unpaid it is likely still renewable.

Excellent observation, allow me to elaborate.

Various and sundry debt types exist in Alabama.

Your state, Alabama, has different time limits based on the type of debt from which the judgment issued to initiate a lawsuit.

Debts originate from oral agreements, written contracts, open ended accounts (commonly known as revolving lines of credit), and legal judgments.

A judgment issued in Alabama is granted for 10 years, however, the creditor can renew the judgment for an additional 10 years.

Subsequent to a 20 year period passing, a creditor cannot renew the judgment, nor use any of the powers authorized with the judgment such as garnishing your wages.
