Job promotion at current employer/oral agreement

I have worked at my company for 4 years. I applied for a promotion and received it via an announcement to the company in email and an oral agreement on the salary. Now they are stalling on the salary end and are refusing to produce written confirmatin of the salary. I have been doing the job for the past week and have already put out some of my own money. Do I have any chance of getting my money back? Can I sue them for reneging on a written and oral agreement?

What does the company state is this jobs salary? Was the monetary agreement an agreed on sum or just numbers being thrown out there. In other words how was the money discussion worded? Who else was present? Did the company require you to put out money you state you have spent?

I do not know what the salary was for the job. My boss and I discussed what I wanted (50,000K) and he offered me $46,ooo plus the company's car package. He and I were the only two present and he was told to make me the offer by the VP. The senior Vp is the one who is renegging on the salary. My boss acknowledges making me the original offer. The company did not require me to put the money out, but I was working under the assumption that I could submit it for reimbursement asI wastold.

Nothing you just said rings of a binding agreement. In fact sounds like the VP who was not present had authority for the pay rate and person speaking to you was go between. Sounds like you guys were bartering and there was no agreement this includes the money you put out. Sorry

My boss just came back to me and apologized for making the initial offer. Doesn;t that qualify as a binding agreement?

You are free to pursue this if you wish but I personally see no bindng agreement especially since person who spoke of agreement did not have final say so! Keep in mind that any waves you make could effect your continued employment

Just in case you do not know. Company computers belong to the company. This means they can and do have access to "everything" you do even on your lunch breaks etc. If you posted any one post from a company computer they could see all your various posts which could give them grounds for termination. Not long ago a poster on another site lost their job due to a post on a message board not unlike this one
