Is it slander or?

I have recently heard from three family members that my mother is using me as an excuse to get out of situations (calling into work, etc). My mother and I haven't talked for years because she is very manipulative and she lies constantly. I have witnessed her use people she was angry at as a tool to get out of a rock and a hard place or just as a sympathy device.

Here's the situation... According to my three family members, over the past
6-8 months, my mother has been telling friends and her co-workers that I'm terminally ill and in a hospital. She's said that she's had to leave work or other places in order to be with me because of emergency purposes. I am not ill terminally and never have been.

Is this considered slander?

My mother has always been abusive. Emotionally, mentally and physically. Emotionally it hurts, but it really hasn't affected me too badly because she lives so far away. Hmmm... I think I see where you're going...
