I recently visited CivilTree.com and paid $70 for the preparation of legal documents for a name change. This is an individual name change and has nothing to do with marriage. In the instructions, I am confused on area 6 which states "Give notice as required by the judge". It states that I am to give publication that requires me to publish a notice of the hearing once a week for three weeks in one of the local papers.
Am I to publish my intent of name change and then bring proof (such as the newspapers) of three weeks of publication to the judge before he decides if I can change my name?
EDIT: Also, I live in the State of Kansas.
Thanks for all your help. =)
