How to serve someone?

How does someone get served legitimately? Like who does it, what are the guidelines, can they hand it to someone other than you, can they mail it even if you no longer live there but your family does, etc?

You will need to check the local court rules in your state. Usually they are online at the court's website. It varies from personal service to simply mailed to your last known address to published in the newspaper.
