I am 16 year's old, I maintain a 89% in school, and i am looking for a job. My grandmother had custody of me for 8 years, but all 8 years i been living with my mother into recently when acs was called. Now I stay with my grandmother in michgan. I only recieve a check from acs, and both my parents agree to the idea of me becomeing emancipated. How do i go about in this ?

Who has legal custody of you? Mom? Grandma? Children's services?

If you are a ward of the court, you will have to ask them about emancipation.

If grandma or Michigan has responsibility, here is some info on emancipation there:

http://courts.michigan.gov/scao/courtforms/emancipation/emindex.htm

If New York, then here:

New York has no specific statute, so that will be tough.

You will have to do a lot of homework and figure out how you will stay in school, provide for housing, and not go on welfare.

It is unlikely that you will be emancipated, but it is possible. Just so you know that court emancipation of minors is extremely rare, so I would not count on it happening.
