Hi,

We are a US-based company in Raleigh, NC. We are in contact with a Master's student in a Colombian university who wants to work with us as part of his research work and during the course of his work he will stay in his hometown in Colombia. We are well aware of FLSA. I was wondering if there are any additional laws that apply to unpaid international students who seek an internship in a US company including immigration and etc.

He will take a three-credit course called "seminar" for which he has to report to us on his progress on the tasks given to him through this internship. His advisor will grade him for the course whom we will keep in touch with and report on our evaluation of the student/intern's work.

Best,
Ali

You have to follow whatever labor laws Columbia has, and you may want to contact a Columbian lawyer about that. Since the work is being performed by a non resident alien outside the U.S. minimum wage laws and most other U.S. labor laws simply don't apply.
