I am a single mother living in my mothers house. I want to move out of my mothers house but can't afford a two bedroom apartment and was considering having my daughter live with my father in another state for less than one year so that I can get myself set financially. Does anyone know if I have to give up my legal rights in order for her to stay with him?

you cannot give up legal rights, all you have to do is send the child to live with him if he agrees, and stop child support if you are receiving it. If you want to go to court and do the official custody change, you can do that too.

Be advised that he is free to seek permanent custody though if he does not feel the child should be returned back to you.

Are you thinking that this is the child's father? She wants to send him to HER father. You're right about him maybe seeking custody later on.

OP, if you have to leave the child, why not your mother? Does the child have a legal father?
