I have a 7 month old daughter and her dad and I were never married. Baby was born in the US and dad is American citizen. I decided to move back to Colombia with my family since being by myself wasnt easy with a newborn. I was always upfront with him and we got her passport.
He filed for custody and schedule an emergency hearing a week before my trip. In court we got to an agreement of my having full physical custody for the next 9 months. We still have a custody hearing for the end of september and for Visa issues I dont think I will be able to make it to the hearing.
I want to ask for a continuance to postpone this hearing while I get everything ready to go. How do I go about this? I currently dont have my lawyer in the US anymore, do I need to have one for this?

Well, SOMEbody needs to speak to this in court. If not you, then your lawyer. Really, you should appear in person - without you being there, your chances are not good.
