Grandparent adopting new born

Is the mother not planning to keep the child?

If she gives the child for adoption then you could certainly try to adopt the same as anyone else... but it seems that would put you in an awkward position with the mother who chose to give the child away.

First, you will not be able to adopt the child until the father's rights are either surrendered or terminated. So it is rather important to find the father. Is the father at all interested in the child? Why does she not know who the father is? Was she raped? Why does your daughter not want the child?

I'm not trying to be judgmental, I really just need more information to give you a good answer.

You need to see an attorney to do this right. A father needs to be identified or at least an attempt made. This can be done via publication. The mother likely knows who the father is, she just doesn't want to reveal.
