At age 17 or 18 (I dont remember). I had a little romance with a guy from Mexico. I was in the Navy and stationed in WA. Anywho, he convinced me to marry him, so I did (young and dumb). The marriage was never consimated and I never saw this guy after this. I had no clue where he disappeared to and well being stationed in WA, I didnt give it much thought. ( this information is important.) I remained married for the next four years. During those four years at 19 I was in a relationship that ended in having my son. I added this guy on the birth certificate but didnt give my son his last name. My son and his biological father have seen eachother maybe three times before the age of five. My son is now 9, and we have no idea where his biological father is. I am now married, been married for six years and my husband want to give my son his last name. Problem is I dont know where his biological father is and I dont know how I should go about to get full custody.

PS. when I divorced, my son was never added on the divorce decree.
Aparently this was a problem for an attorney I had spoken to a while back.

Changing the kid's name is going to be more trouble than it'll be worth. It'll also be very costly. Let the kid do it when he turns 18. Besides, doing thus now could create many problems for your present 'marriage'!!
Don't ask why, you're better off NOT knowing. In this case, let sleeping dogs sleep!
